What is your professional background/experience?

I grew up working orchards, then moved to India and stepped into the non-profit sector, learning grant writing and conflict navigation. COVID brought me back to Canada in 2020, where I worked for Spirit North as a community leader and outdoor educator with Indigenous youth. Since then, I’ve dug deeper into forestry — three seasons with BC Wildfire Crews (two with Quesnel IA and one with Columbia UC) — and more recently shifted to proactive wildfire work.

What education or courses have you completed?

I attended Mahindra United World College (India), an alternative high school focused on conflict management and building a peaceful, sustainable future — an experience that still shapes how I show up in forests or the wood shop. I’m also a Level 2 cabinet apprentice. In September 2025, I’ll return to TRU to finish my undergrad with an interdisciplinary thesis exploring the intersection of wildfire, sociology, and psychology — with the goal of pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Counselling to study how wildfire impacts communities and to challenge our collective fear of fire.

What is your favorite thing about the work you do?

The people — 95% of good resource management comes down to people and relationships. Also, fire is just really cool.

Which project are you most proud of and why?

The Castlegar CWRP — I led this project and loved the chance to educate and engage the public on the importance of good fire, weaving it into land and resource management for ecological and social benefits.

How do you spend your time when you’re not working on Cathro Collective projects?

Outside — as much as possible. In warm months you’ll find me on two wheels (mountain biking or bike-packing) with a canoe often trailing behind. In winter, I’m on two planks searching for untouched powder — usually involving a bit of a suffer fest. If I’m not moving, I’m in the garden or curled up with a good book.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To fly — in another life, I’d love to be a bird.
